What To Expect In Your First Krav Maga Class

What To Expect In Your First Krav Maga Class

You’ve finally booked your place on the fundamentals course that has been playing on your mind for months and you’re coming in for your first Krav Maga class!

It’s normal to feel nervous, the unknown can be daunting. Knowing what to expect from your first class can help you mentally prepare and feel ready for the first step in your Krav Maga journey!

You’ll want to arrive 10 minutes before the class starts, we’ll look after you and make you feel welcome the second you walk through the door. When you arrive there bring your registration form filled out or there will be a form for you to fill at the reception desk. Please also check in at the Kiosk at the reception desk.

What to Bring

You can wear comfortable clothing (jogging trousers or shorts and a t-shirt). We have a “No Outside Shoe” policy. You can either wear clean boxing training shoes or train barefoot. You’ll also need a bottle of water.

Hygiene

Please remove any piercings and jewellery before the class to prevent injuries. If you wear glasses then please feel free to pop them on to watch the technique, but you’ll have to take them off when practising! Make sure to cut your toenails and fingernails, and if you have long hair then you’ll want to tie it up out of the way.

Your First Class

We will start with a short introduction to the Self Defence Krav Maga system and safety tips. After this the instructor will start the class and everyone will spread out for the warm up! It’s the same every time so you’ll get used to some of the trickier moves, but we’ll make sure one of our students helps you out.

Our classes are an hour long and always follow the same structure, so you’ll start with a warm up followed by techniques. You’ll be paired up with one of the other participants and our assistant instructors will look after you and make sure you understand the moves. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, our instructors are always happy to answer any you may have!

The class will finish with a combination of techniques you learn during class with application on the focus pads, where you’ll be working a bit more harder. This part gets easier with the more classes you come to and more Krav Maga you learn, just focus on trying to execute the technique you learned in the class!

We end the class with a line up and a bow.

It’s perfectly normal to feel exhausted after your first Krav Maga class, even for the most in shape people! Martial Arts is hard work and it will take a while for your body to get used to it. It’s a fantastic way to get fit and an amazing feeling when you start to get the techniques to work!

Once you’ve come in and taken that first big step into your Krav Maga journey, you’ll wish you had done it sooner!
